First Team

Quay Caison, Warren County, throws

Junior placed sixth in the shot put in the Group 3A state meet with a throw of 48-08.00. Caison improved two spots on last year’s finish for the Wildcats.

Ronnie Clifton, Skyline, throws

Senior placed second in the discus with a throw of 152-01, which was a personal record for him by over 14 feet. His PR was second in the area in discus for behind 4A state champion Trent McCarty.

Cody Darr, Strasburg, sprints

The senior won the Group 2A state title in the 200-meter run with a PR of 21.66. It was the first time he had broken 22 in his career and broke his own school record.

Jacquari Hayes, Sherando, jumps

The sophomore finished fifth in the triple jump in the Group 4A state meet with a leap of 44-10.50. He entered the meet ranked 19th and helped lead the boys team to a sixth-place finish.

Trent McCarty, Sherando, throws

The senior won the Group 4A state title in the discus with a throw of 151-04, which was still four feet and three inches short of his PR. He also placed fifth in the shot put for the Warriors.

Jamal Parker, Skyline, jumps/sprints

The senior earned all-state honors in four events. He placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 43-08.50. He also placed fifth in the long jump and the 100.

Hunter Riley, Strasburg, throws

The sophomore placed fifth in the Group 2A state meet in the discus with a throw of 135-09. It was a PR for him, moving him to third in the area in the discus. He entered the state meet seeded 14th.

Josh Runion, Strasburg, throws

The junior moved from his 12th seeded position all the way to an eighth-place finish in the discus in the Group 2A state meet. Runion threw a 127-00.00 at the state meet.

Thomas Shea, Sherando, distance

The junior finished eighth in the Group 4A state meet in the 3,200 with a time of 10:09.61. He also was part of Sherando’s record-setting 4×800 relay team.

Derrick Smith, Stonewall Jackson, sprints

The senior placed 12th in the 400 in the Group 2A state meet held at Radford University. Smith ran a 51.57 in the state meet, which was a PR and was the top time in the area this season.

Elijah Waters, Strasburg, hurdles

The sophomore placed fourth in the Group 2A state meet in the 110 hurdles. He ran a 15.64 at the state meet, which was a PR and the top time in the area this season.

Trevor Whiteside, Sherando, middle distance

The junior placed second in the 800 in the Group 4A state meet in a time of 1:55.23. Whiteside also was part of the 4×800 relay team, which placed fourth.
